Nike Kills BCS Game Merchandise – What’s Next?
Look, unless it’s YOUR team, championship merchandise is just ugly S.W.A.G. they give away for bowl games and pharmaceutical conferences. But Nike and these BCS Bowl games have taken it to another level.
Now that we’re closing in on the final minutes of the National Championship I can only imagine the shirts that Alabama (barring a miracle comeback from LSU) will be wearing will have another cheesy, typical song lyrics on them. “We Are the Champions.” Even that wouldn’t be as bad as “Nacho Victory” or “Orange You Glad We Won.” Nike normally kills it with their marketing. They’re usually spot on. But these are terrible. I’ve been a huge proponent of Nike and their uniforms. I love the Oregon Ducks uniforms and all the new materials and designs. I think that kind of forward thinking pushes the game to a new level. But “Pour Some Sugar on Me?” Really?!?!? That’s a great song, but not on a shirt for a 19yr old kid from Michigan. I guess the creative director was out on his Christmas vacation when these designs were pushed through. For sure someone had to object to this idea
C’mon Nike for these terrible BCS shirts, you played yourself. You can do better and these kids deserve better.
