Quick 6′er – 9/23/2010
I’m back mofos! I know it has been awhile, but I’m back with a vengeance. This weeks Quick 6′er we talk Braylon F. Edwards, The Superman back-down and, my favorite sports personality, Scott Van Pelt. Let’s get to it.
1. WTF Braylon Edwards? – Dude, when are you going to learn? You are just a problem waiting to blow up. Run out of Cleveland for attitude problems, lead the league in drops, finally make a catch against a weak Patriots defense and you get a 15yd taunting penalty, almost do the same thing on a 2pt conversion, THEN get busted driving while intoxicate at more than twice the legal limit. Weren’t you in the car with Donte Stallworth when he KILLED a man? Did you not learn your lesson then? Sadly, your worst offense may be that damn beard. That thing is terrible.
2. Shaq wants Dwight Howard to bring a championship to Orlando. – Recently in an article with the Orlando Sentinel, Shaq said he’d like to see Dwight bring multiple championships to Orlando after he’s gone. He also said that all his animosity towards Dwight was apart of his “marketing techniques” and he knows what he’s doing. Now, I love Shaq. I think he’s got a kind of Charles Barkley quality to him. He’s loveable even when he’s being an idiot. I don’t think Shaq’s feuds were completely made up, I think he was jealous that another big man was leading a team deep in the playoffs while he was struggling with back-to-backs. I do think this is mature of him to start to realize that the game is to be shared and not hoarded. As much as he’d like to, Shaq can’t play forever. Maybe he’s the next big man the Magic hire to give Dwight a post-up game.
3. Hey CJ2.5K just run - Titan’s running back Chris Johnson (CJ2K) wants to make amass 2,500 yards for the season. A feat that I just don’t see him accomplishing. ESPECIALLY after the mighty Pittsburgh defense held him to just 34 yards on 16 carries this past week. To be fair, I didn’t see him accomplishing this before the season anyway. Now needing to average more than 170yds a game it, certainly, will not happen. Vince Young isn’t a passing threat that will keep defenses from putting 8 or 9 in the box. Johnson is a great running back and I keep trying to find a way to get him on my fantasy team. I just hope he holds up. Most running backs hit the 2k mark and begin to break down. Too many carries and too many hits. He’s fast, and I hope his career doesn’t end fast.
4. Derek Jeter is a lying, cheating, snake! – And I applaud him for it. Last week the Captain was given a free pass when a ball clearly hit the bat, but Jeter acted as if he’d been hit. I don’t see a problem with it. If a base runner is clearly out, but called safe, they aren’t going to tell Blue “Nah man, I was out.” It’s the officials job to get it right. He admitted it. Get off him. I do believe in Kharma, however. I think in someway he’ll get what is coming to him. Whether in the field of play or elsewhere in life. Hate the game, officials and lack of technology used in determining calls. But don’t hate the player.
5. Scott Van Pelt is my homeboy – Remember the glory years of SportsCenter? Stuart Scott, Dan Patrick and Kenny Mayne bringing humor into the world of sports. Combined with Chris Berman’s short sleeve button ups and comb-over it was great. The on air talent made the show bigger than just sports highlights. Now it seems as if ESPN has gone the other way. Don’t get me wrong, ESPN has stepped their game up with quality reporting and professional anchors. But their just seems to be a lack of personality. Aside from SVP, the closest thing we have to a dynamic personality is Neil Everett. And seeing as how all his analogies are alcohol related, who knows how long till he’s in rehab. Scott Van Pelt has that dynamic personality that makes the 35th time I’ve heard “Brett Favre is calling it quits” watchable. I listen to SVP’s radio show every day. He and Ryen Rusillo keep it funny without trying to push the buttons purely for ratings like Colin Cowherd. Cowherd is the Howard Stern of sports radio, while the SVP show is actually entertaining, whether you agree with their points or not. Please remove Woody Paige, Bill Plthasshttthsckee, and Dan Lebatard from all shows and replace with Van Pelt. Not only is he funny, but he brings the sports knowledge despite his Maryland degree. That’s talent. Then throw in his “This is SportsCenter” commercials. They are easily among the best. Give him the respect he deserves, and maybe his own TV show. ESPN, you’ve got talent on your hands. You’d better keep it.
6. Vick is now starting for the Philadelphia Eagles – How many times have I said this. Be careful what you wish for Eagles fans, you just might get it. I agree that Vick is electrifying. But he’s not a permanent solution for a team that could win a SuperBowl in the next 5 years. Vick may be better than Kolb this year. But what you saw against the Lions last week is all Vick will ever be. He’s a great runner and he’ll make a couple of passes now and then. He’s a phenomenal talent. But you still almost lost to a Lions team. Yes, Detroit is improved but their defense has been their weakest link for several years now. You beat them by 3 points. Maybe all he’s ever needed was a great coach to utilize his talents? I don’t know. All I know is he’s caused Andy Reid to throw away his 10 year plan and turn the reins over to a QB that has never had back to back winning seasons. Sounds like a great plan Philly. Looking forward to the day when DMac comes back to Philly and has a career game, while Vick “electrifies” the crowd to a loss.
One Bold Prediction – Hic-cup. Ok… let me focus here. Kevin Kolb will play for the Bills next year. Mike Vick will get hurt early in the 2011 season and Philly will be 2 seasons without being in the playoffs. But, the Philly fans will be “electrified” while calling for #7′s head. Donovan McNabb will be laughing all the way to the playoffs in ’11. Mark my drunken words.
