Greatest Coaching Rants! Who’s Next?
Football season is almost here and the writers of the Sports Collision have already put their picks in. In case you missed it, you can review it here. The other day, my father said something in a heated political debate that got me to thinking about a certain coach’s outburst in front of the media. My old man said and I quote, “Where are we at in society?” and “Makes me want to puke.” Now, some of you who follow college football should get it, but in case you have forgotten, you can watch it below:
I believe I was at my parent’s house for dinner and finishing watching the Longhorns football and they replayed the clip over and over again on ESPN, FOXSW and it was one of the most funniest outbursts that I had ever heard. I mean there has been some great ones in the past from college and NFL coaches. I think what made this even more special was that he was defending a player and stuck it the reporter who wrote the column about the player.
Staying at the college level and in the Big 12, Colorado head coach Dan Hawkins in this clip doesn’t rant for three minutes like Coach Gundy, but what’s great about this is how he went from mellow to mad with the build up.
Another Big 12 coach or should I say former coach, Mike Leach fromerly of the Texas Tech Red Raider family has had his own interesting outburts with this one being his latest and involving the players girlfriends.
Switching over to the Pro level where there are quite a few more blow ups. Jim Mora comes to mind, but his rants are directed at his teams most notably the Colts and the Saints.
And, then there’s this:
Another man that let his emotions get the best of him is former Arizona Cardinals Head Coach, Dennis Green where his team had blown a 20 point lead against the then high octane Chicago Bears.
Then rookie head coach Mike Singletary of the 49ers singled out his top tight end in this clip. The player after this clip and the following seasons has produced.
I’m ready for football to officially begin and I can’t wait to see the next coach blow up. Just as many great moments happen on the field…there are plenty of great moments off the field. I would like to see Lane Kiffin explode. Who would you like to see go on a rant?
