With the 2010 College Football season getting ready to kick off in less than a month, there are a lot of questions to be answered. The most talked about quarterback class since 1983 draft with Dan Marino, Jim Kelly and John Elway won’t be taking snaps for the first time in 4 years. And it seems as perennial powerhouses like Florida, USC and Texas have question marks surrounding their seasons. This will certainly be an interesting season. The Sports Collision writers got together and broke down every automatic BCS qualifying conference to determine conference champions, Heisman candidates and of course the BCS National Champion.
So let’s get started.
Who will win the SEC?
ALABAMA
FLORIDA
ALABAMA
ALABAMA
| Reigning national champs with no Tebow or Kiffen in conference. Saban is on ‘Bama sideline not LSU. Look out for Georgia too. |
My brain wants to say Alabama, and then I thought about it. Alabama will be difficult for Florida on October 2 in Tuscaloosa, but it is very difficult to beat a team twice in one season. Florida will get revenge in the SEC title game. |
The return of Richardson and Ingram will be enough for Alabama to retain their title. |
Their defense is always solid and the running backs are solid. If the QB can manage the game then they should go on to dominate and grind out an SEC championship like they did last year. |
Who will win the Big 10?
MICHIGAN
OHIO ST.
OHIO ST.
OHIO ST.
| Despite the sanctions imposed, Rich Rodriguez has a stud QB in Tate Forcier and should be able to use his recruiting classes. Pryor hasn’t proven anything to me yet. |
Terrell Pryor with another year under his belt and I have a feeling Jim Tressel is going to let go of the reigns on him a little bit. If Pryor is allowed to run free, WATCH OUT!! |
There won’t be a defense in the Big 10 that can stop Terell Pryor. |
Pryor…another year older, wiser… heisman candidate. If Jim Tressell is as good as coach as everyone seem to think, then Pryor should lead Ohio State to the National Championship game. |
Who will win the Big XII?
TEXAS
OKLAHOMA
TEXAS
TEXAS
| Only 2 teams have a shot here; Texas and Oklahoma. Both have young QB’s with big game experience and loads of talent around them. If all things are equal, go with the most recent champ. |
Texas has no tests at all before OU and the Sooners will just be coming off of a tough road game in Cincinnati. Oklahoma wins the “Shootout” (forget being PC), and takes down Nebraska in the Big 12 Title game. |
Gilbert showed that he has what it takes to be a big time college QB, and you know that Muschamp will have the defense running on all cylinders. The incoming freshman class will help to fill any holes that were created by the departing senior class. |
Yes, they lost some of their key players, but if there is one thing Texas is good at, it’s replacing players. Their secondary, despite not having Earl Thomas, is still a force to be reckon with. Garrett Gilbert overcame quite a bit in his first true test (aka the 2010 National Championship). He may have not won the game, but to be in that environment as a freshman should be prepare you for any type of game. |
Who will win the Pac-10?
OREGON
WASHINGTON
OREGON ST.
ARIZONA
| Odd to say that USC is in a rebuilding year, but they are. New coach and impossed sanctions leave it open for Oregon to continue their infantile dynasty over the Pac-10 |
Jake Locker is a stud and surprised everyone by coming back for his senior year. Oregon will be tough but the loss of Masoli will hurt more than they are leading on. |
USC will continue to flounder this year. The Beavers will look to avenge their loss in the civil war from last season and will be able to do so thanks to the off the field troubles at Oregon. |
The year Mike Stoops finally get his team to the crown…with uncertainty and drama surrounding USC and Oregon losing their QB, it seems this is the best chance for the Wildcats to make some noise in the Pac-10 |
Who will win the Big East?
PITTSBURGH
PITTSBURGH
S. FLORIDA
PITTSBURGH
| Two time defending champ’s coach defects to Notre Dame and Wanstedt knows how to recruit players. Leagues Offensive and Co-Defensive players of the year are both retuning to a tough Panthers team. |
They fell off at the end of the season and missed out of the conference title. This year’s team is battle tested and hungry to correct the mistakes from last season. |
Dual threat QB B J Daniels will be ready to lead the Bulls to the promised land in a conference that lacks a standout team. |
Pittsburgh has been pretty consistent the last several seasons. However, it’s not that hard to do in the Big East, arguably the easiest conference in College Football. Cincy lost their coach to Notre Dame and I don’t firmly believe that they were all that to begin with…again playing in an easy conference. West Virginia has been stable after the Rich Rodriguez but Pittsburgh was within a point of beating Cincinnati in the last game. I think they will be more hungry and go on to win. |
Who will win the ACC?
MIAMI
GEORGIA TECH
MIAMI
FLORIDA ST.
| If Miami wins @ Ohio State on Sept. 11th and a couple of other pieces fall into place, they could be poised for a National Title run. Yes, I said National Title. Because of their schedule, if Miami is undefeated and there is only one other BCS school undefeated, they’ll be in. Jacory Harris is an all out stud with a good amount of experience now. Though they play @ Georgia Tech they do have Florida State, North Carolina and Virginia Tech at home. Bunch of “if’s” but I think they can do it. |
Josh Nesbitt is back at QB and that stable of RB’s should be hard for everyone in conference to handle. The ACC is not what it used to be and I expect the winner of Ga Tech-Va Tech to win the conference. |
Randy Shannon will finally get his due thanks to the play of his Star QB, Jacory Harris. |
New Head Coach…New Rejuvenation. Spiller is gone from Clemson. Will Florida State be as dominant when the old man was the running show? Who knows, but like the Big East, the ACC has been an easy conference…any team could really win it, but my gut tells me the Seminoles. |
Will Notre Dame have a winning season?
YES
YES
YES
NO
| Brian Kelley will get the win against Navy and 8 more wins. They win at least 9, but, they lose at least 2 of these games: Michigan, @Michigan St, Utah and @USC. |
They will finish 7-5, MAYBE. The beginning of their season is treacherous and if they come out 3-3 from their first 6 games it will be amazing. Brian Kelly can make a HUGE name for himself with 8 wins this year. |
Every new coach starts off well at Notre Dame. The question is will they have a winning season in 2011? |
QB is gone, best WR is gone. New Head Coach. It’s a rebuilding season. |
Which non-automatic BCS qualifying team should we watch out for?
UTAH
BOISE ST.
BOISE ST.
TCU
| Boise St, the easy pick, plays a tough game at, essentially, Virginia Tech this year and the Utes have something to prove with the recent PAC-10 acceptance. Big games at home with TCU and Pitt. Big winnable game at Notre Dame. |
21 out of 22 starters return from an undefeated team last year that also defeated stud TCU 17-10. TCU will have something to say about it as well, but the Broncos are NASTY!! |
After last years BCS victory over TCU, Boise St. is poised to make a title run with another undefeated season. |
They have always been a solid team and they will continue to do so with a stout defense. Boise State is a close second as they have been in National Title contention the last couple years, but Horney Frogs have it figured out and will use their defense to snuff out opponents. |

Who is your early pick for Heisman winner?
JACORY HARRIS
TERRELLE PRYOR
ALABAMA BACKFIELD
TERRELLE PRYOR
| Mark Ingram, Tate Forcier and and Jacory Harris. Ingram will be there for the same reasons Tebow was there the last couple of years. He’s good and he’s already won it. But, this will be a 2 person race between Forcier and Harris with the victor being the older Harris. |
Ingram, Locker, Case Keenum (Houston), Noel Devine (WVU), and Pryor (early favorite). If Jim Tressel will finally let the kid play, he can direct the Buckeyes to an amazing season. |
Expect the RBs for Alabama to lead the Crimson Tide to another SEC Championship, and with it, run their way to a Heisman Trophy battle. |
A year older and wiser…just like Vince Young it could be his coming out year where he controls the game, but it starts with coaching. Tressell cannot be so conservative and he needs to trust Pryor as the Texas Coaches did with Young in 2005. |

Who wins the BCS National Title?

| Miami Hurricanes vs. Alabama Crimson Tide in the Weather Bowl. Alabama is too tough for the young Hurricanes. The gulf coast region needs a financial lift after everything that has gone down. See: BP Oil Spill. Miami vs. Alabama in the title game could help, even if its just a little. |
In a game of two unbeatens Ohio State will win over the surprise Boise St Broncos. Pryor is going to win the Heisman and take this Buckeye team to new heights. Their defense will stop Boise State 24-10. |
Terell Pryor will show why a dual threat QB is the most feared thing in college football, especially when they are backed by a stout defense. |
Mark Ingram – the man is a beast. SEC owns the Big Ten. Alabama is built on defense and pounding the rock…The only thing that could hurt them is not having a proven QB to manage the game. |
