George Steinbrenner

Sad news today out of the Yankee family. George Steinbrenner has passed away at the age of 80.
“It is with profound sadness that the family of George M. Steinbrenner III announces his passing. He passed away this morning in Tampa, Fla., at age 80.
“He was an incredible and charitable man. First and foremost he was devoted to his entire family – his beloved wife, Joan; his sisters, Susan Norpell and Judy Kamm, his children, Hank, Jennifer Jessica and Hal; and all of his grandchildren.
He was a visionary and a giant in the world of sports. He took a great but struggling franchise and turned it into a champion again.”
Love him or hate him, he was one of the best owners in sports. He always put together a dominant team (at least in recent history) and did what he felt best for his fans and ball club. If only Ralph Wilson were so competitive. I can’t think of more fitting end that for him to go out during All-Star weekend. You truly were an All-Star George. Sad day in baseball and sports alike. This beer is for you George.
