2010 World Cup Quarterfinals Preview
Well the World Cup is into the final 8 and it is clear that South America is DOMINANT so for in the tournament. 4 out of the 5 South American teams make up the 8 quarterfinalists. What makes these games so interesting, is powerhouse vs. powerhouse in some and upstart vs. upstart in another.
Netherlands vs. Brazil
This is the game I am looking forward to more than any other. Both of these sides are world class and have the talent to score many, many goals. The game will be decided in the Dutch defense though. They gave up some easy opportunities to Slovakia and if they do that, Brazil will bury them. Robinho and Luis Fabiano are too good to allow open chances. On offense the Dutch are very dangerous, but can they get anything past Julio Cesar in goal. Look for Arjen Robben to make a big impact and possibly Wesley Snejder as well. When all is said and done, Brazil just might be too good. Prediction: Brazil 3 Netherlands 2
Uruguay vs. Ghana
This is the match that no one saw coming. Uruguay has been one of the stingiest teams in the tournament as far as giving up chances and goals. On offense, Diego Forlan and Suarez have given team fits and things don’t look to be changing. What brings the excitement to this game is the last remaining African team in the World Cup. Ghana carries the hope and dreams of the entire continent. The Black Stars need Kevin Prince Boateng to be as aggressive and energetic as he has been all tournament. Prediction: Ghana 2 Uruguay 1
Germany vs. Argentina
Ahhh the grudge match. 4 years ago Germany won in a penalty kick shootout. After the game, there was a skirmish between the teams that broke out. 4 years later, Bastian Schweinsteiger of Germany is calling out the Argentines saying that they dont have respect for other teams, officials, and the game. GAME ON!! No team has been more impressive than the Lionel Messi led bunch in South Africa. They have dominated everyone they played and look to rough up the Germans as well. Higuain is looking to win the Golden Boot for the most goals in the tournament, but will have to outscore Germany’s World Cup star Miroslav Klose. I expect lots of scoring in this one. Prediction: Argentina 4 Germany 2
Paraguay vs. Spain
Of all the matches in the final 8, this one is most likely to be a blowout. Spain has been dominant since their opening match defeat to Switzerland. Paraguay upset Italy and won Group E, but what will come of them in this difficult stage? This one is easy to call, because of 1 man….DAVID VILLA. No one has been able to come close to stopping him in this World Cup and I do not see Paraguay as that team. Prediction: Spain 3 Paraguay 0
