2010 World Cup Preview…..Part 4

world cup

In this final installment of the FIFA World Cup 2010 Preview, the two favorites and top 2 teams in the entire world will br previewed.  The Group of Death this year in the World Cup is without a doubt Group G.  3 teams in this group are fantastic and have high profile goal scorers.  The other team has a high profile leader who is known for his tyranny more than his soccer fandom.  Kim Jong-Il’s North Korea team is so outmatched in this group that the country will probably not hear about how their team does.  Rumor has it that no news of the team will be reported unless they win.  HIGHLY UNLIKELY.  The lesser of the 3 powerhouses in this group is the Ivory Coast.  Last month, this team would have been a favorite to make it out of this group but a broken arm of star Didier Drogba has changed some things.  This team is still very, very dangerous and can strike at will.  Salomon Kalou and Gervinho will have to step up their game and go back to the form that beat Serbia in the 2008 Olympics.

Portugal is a very dangerous team, and mostly because of their rockstar Cristiano Ronaldo.  Ronaldo first caught my attention back in 2006 in the World Cup and has been captivating everyone since.  He will need help from Deco and former Manchester United teammate Nani if Seleccao Das Quinas wants to advance out of this group.  Then of course the last team of this group is the most recognized team in all of soccer.  The Brazilians are one of a handful of teams who will be SUPREMELY disappointed if they do not win it all.  How talented is this team?  Ronaldinho could not make this team.  Kaka and Robinho will have to dominate for this team to win the Cup.  Winning the group should not be a problem, but as I said before..ONLY TOTAL VICTORY WILL DO!! Predictions: 1) Brazil, 2) Portugal, 3) Ivory Coast, 4) North Korea.

The final group, Group H, should be a cake walk for the the Euro 2008 Champions.  The rest of the Group will be fighting amongst themselves for the 2nd spot.  Honduras is a team that will not quit and can get very physical on the pitch.  Their keeper is very suspect, but he is team’s best option.  EPL players Maynor Figueroa and Hendry Thomas will have to be amazing for the Honduran team to advance.  Switzerland has a strong defense but their attack is where the problem lies.  This team almost made the quarterfinals in 2006, and will have to re-create that magic to advance.

The Chilean side is very aggressive and has young stars that will make that aggressive style difficult to deal with.  Matias Fernandez and Alexis Sanchez are just two more amazing young talents to come out of South America and that fast paced style works well for them.  Finally, there is La Furia Roja.  Spain is the class of this and every other group in the World Cup.  The question is not how good is this team.  With Torres, David Villa, Xavi, Cesc Fabregas, and company this team is DEADLY.  The question is can they finally step up during the big one?  All the stars I mentioned are great, but what is forgotten about this team is their great defense.  Sergio Ramos, Gerard Pique, and Carlos Puyol will frustrate the opposition and Iker Casillas in goal is one of the best in the world.  Predictions: 1) Spain, 2) Chile, 3) Switzerland, 4) Honduras.
