Tiger, Nike and Creepy Voiceover

Tiger Woods, Nike Commercial

I don’t want to buy Nikes, but I do like Tiger’s new commercial.

By now, most of the sports world has seen the new Tiger Woods black and white commercial where in a voiceover, his father, Earl Woods, is questioning his thinking in a disappointing voice.  When I first saw it, I thought Tiger was going to say something and plead his case again.  However, it was his father’s voice who carried the whole commercial.  Tiger never said a word, but only carried a sad facial expression.  After Earl is done questioning, the Nike swoosh is shown.  My initial reaction is to go out buy Nike products…just kidding.   Even though his father is deceased, I think if he was around today, then Tiger, like most son’s who do wrongdoings in their father’s eyes, would most certainly get a reaming.  Reports have recently surfaced that voiceover used for this commercial was actually said to Tiger’s mother, Kultida, in a 2004 DVD.  Even though those words were meant for her, I have to think that Earl would really let Tiger have it.  Perhaps even worse then what this Nike commercial depicts.  Earl Woods was the most important and influential person in Tiger’s life and Tiger let him down.  It would be one of those moments where someone close to Tiger would say, “What would your father say if he was here?” And you just kind of stand there speechless with a sad facial expression.  I have not nor will I ever come close to the wrongdoings Tiger has done, but I know what it’s like to disappoint a love one and it’s probably the worst feeling in the world.

Check the Video after the Break.

I don’t condone what Tiger has done, but I think he is on the right path of re-establishing his image.  There have been plently of big stars (i.e. Jordan, Bryant) to fall off the path of greatness because of their mistakes, but in time they were able to regain the trust of the people, their sport and their love ones.  Tiger will be alright and I think this commercial is a good starting point.

Just don’t F up, Tiger.
