No Respect!
It is no secret that I am a San Antonio Spurs fan. When I work the games for radio and get the audio from the locker rooms, my Spurs fandom gets pushed to the side and I have to become unbiased reporter guy. While that is not difficult for me, there are times during the game where my fandom seems to take over. As a Spurs fan, I never have a problem with opposing fans coming to the AT&T Center and cheering for their team. I am even used to their being an abundance of Rockets, Lakers, or Mavs fans in attendance supporting their teams. What I do have a problem with is a blatant lack of respect.
Friday night at the Spurs vs. Rockets game, the Houston fans showed a complete lack of respect. I am fine with them cheering loudly and obnoxiously for their team, but to scream out a cheer during the National Anthem is disgraceful. During the Star Spangled Banner, the Rockets fans all screamed and sang “rockets red glare” in unison. I know it is probably something that they do in Houston, but come on. Screaming out during the anthem of our nation is a joke. When do you ever see people do that? That is pathetic and down right rude. Maybe it should be expected from a place like Houston, where people like She-Mac and colossal D-bag Warren Moon have played. Either way, it was a disgrace and I was embarrassed for these idiots.
