And the World Series Winner is…

The World Series is upon us! Finally baseball where every game, every hit, every pitch matters. Oh.. I know it matters all year long, but it doesnt seem the players think so. Here’s Sports Collisions official World Series Breakdown and Prediction.

World Series Trophy New York versus Philadelphia. Yanks vs. Phils. Arguably the best professional sports team vs. the losingest (*Note, I didnt say worst). CC vs. Lee. Pedro vs. His daddy.

This could be a great series. These are the two best teams in baseball. Top to bottom the Phillies have better offense. Aside from A-Roid, Rod.. sorry….. anyway.. where was I? Aside from A-Rod and maybe Derek Jeter, the Phillies are a better offensive team position by position. They can score runs like no other.

The Yankees have a better starting rotation and of course Mariano Rivera. CC Sabathia is the leader, the glue that has kept the Yanks together. This is something that no other Yankee team has had. Sabathia has been pitching lights out lately and I expect this to continue. Speaking of Mariano Rivera and that explosive Phillies offense. The advantage here goes to the Yankees. The heart of Philly’s offense is predominatly left handed and which gives the right handed Rivera a distinct advantage.

Lets talk experience. More Phillies players have World Series experience than do Yankees players. But the Yankees players that do have world series experience, Jeter, Petite, Posada and Rivera have a ton of experience. There are so many breakdowns here that I can go on and on about… so I am just going to list a few advantages:

  • Yanks – Home field advantage (Stupid All-Star game rule)
  • Yanks – Rivera
  • Phillies – Lidge has been great this post season and last.
  • Yanks – Lidge can be hit or miss… Albert Pujols anyone?
  • Phillies – Defending Champs
  • Phillies – Pedro Martinez Factor
  • Yanks – Its basically the ex-Texas Rangers
  • Phillies – Jimmy Rollins predicted them to win in 5. (or 6)

Then there is the Alex Rodriguez situation… His career wont be validated in many peoples minds till he gets a championship ring. For the highest paid player ever to not have a ring wont sit right with Yankees’ fans or MLB fans. He’s phenomenally good, despite my dislike for him. Unless he completey chokes (which we’ve all seen is possible), he’s going to really push his team this series.

What does it all mean. Well it means this should turn out to be the first series in awhile, that is actually worth watching. This series will go at least 6 games.

As much as it pains me to say it, Sports Collision has the Yankees in 6. Alex Rodriguez will be the MVP. I’ll be rooting for Ryan Howard, Cliff Lee and the gang, but I just cant pick’em.
