Ohio State a Lock to Beat USC.
Buckeyes chances of knocking off the No. 4 Trojans better than what people think.
Ok, I know what your thinking. And yes maybe I am an idiot. And maybe I know nothing about sports. But looking over sports blogs, friendly email smack, and listening to sports radio the past week has prompted me to stay silent no long. And the remark of USC winning even if the game was played at Terrelle Pryor’s grandma’s house, yes funny, yet motivating to voice my take.
Last seasons match up between the Buckeyes and Trojans resulted in a 35-3 victory in favor of Southern Cal. But the outcome doesn’t reflect a couple of key factors that people are overlooking. The Buckeyes started quarterback, Todd Boeckman, who finished 14-21, with two picks, and was sacked four times. One of the picks, in the first half, was taken back for six. The halftime score was 21-3, still manageable; maybe without the pick still a 14-3 game. Maybe. We don’t know, because Terrelle Pryor was still a baby. He came in the game and was 7-9 for 52 yards and was sacked only once. Ohio State Coach, Jim Tressel, has a knack for rotating quarterbacks. He did it a few years ago when the Texas Longhorns went to Columbus during their title run in 2005. Coach Tressel rotated Troy Smith and what’s his name. And by the way, if you have to go back and look up the name of a quarterback, like I did for Todd Boeckman, HE SHOULDN’T BE STARTING AGAINST THE USC TROJANS! If Troy Smith started and played the entire game agisinst UT, there is know doubt in my mind that the ‘horns what of lost. Now I am not saying that if Pryor would of started and played the entire game last year that the Buckeyes would of won, but it would have been a closer game. Moving on from last year to this year, last weeks Trojan game against San Diego “who” was “fools gold.” Mike Benson could have been taking snaps and the Trojans still would of covered the spread. The Buckeyes struggled with Navy last Saturday because of a few overlooked points. One, Coach Tressel said it himself, the Buckeye defense didn’t practice for a Navy wish bone offense. They had no idea how they were going to defend it. Now you think the Buckeyes “D” is practicing for that freshman, Matt Barkley? The Buckeyes had a comfortable lead against Navy, coach Tressel once again rotated quarterbacks, and with all do credit, Navy almost pulled off the upset. My “sports book” is making Southern Cal a seven-point favorite. To ensure that I just don’t talk-the-talk, I have put my wife’s hard earned cash on the “money line” and took the Buckeyes straight up without points this Saturday. That bet was placed Tuesday night. Win or lose, if the game was in fact played at Terrell grandma’s house back yard, I think the buckeyes would be the fav, just saying.

The other night I was placing my college picks at three in the morning and my wife wakes up and says, “Really, its three in the morning, when does the season end?” I looked at her and replied, “Its just getting started baby, its just getting started!” She then said “well get it started on the coach!” Well worth it, I love college football. |
